Free mobile analytics tool from AdMob

Regular readers of this blog might know that I’ve discussed the importance of analytic tools to track a mobile ad campaign’s performance time and again. Now, AdMob, the leading mobile ad platform provider, has come up with a mobile metrics package which helps you track the performance of your mobile sites and mobile advertising campaigns. More importantly, the service is entirely free of cost.

Called AdMob Mobile Analytics, the service is free of cost and it can be compared to Google’s Google Analytics service. With this, you can track your mobile site’s performance more effectively with data such as the number of unique visitors, duration of visit, geographical details of users, page performance, and so on. Also, using this service, you will be able to track any ad campaign, not just AdMob’s ad campaigns. So, it’s truly a great opportunity for mobile advertisers and mobile site owners.

Indian company to pay users to listen to ads in mobile phone

Trust me; this could well be the best deal ever for a mobile user. Airvoice Infocomm, a private company in India, has come up with a plan which could truly change the mobile advertising market in India. You get paid for getting ads in your mobile phone. Interested? Read on.

The plan is simple gentlemen. When you make a call from your mobile phone, you’ll hear a 10 second ad before connecting to the number you call. Okay; so, what’s so special about this? Well; you get paid every time you listen to an ad.

Now, in order to stay clear of privacy intrusion issues and all that jazz, the company has three options for mobile users.

1. The mobile ad campaign is subscription based. So, you get ads only if you want.

2. You can choose the type of ads you want to hear and you can also choose at what time you want to hear those ads.

3. You also have the option to skip an ad, if you are not in the mood to listen to it.

4. You can opt out of this program any time you want.

I mean, honestly, could it get any better? You get paid for the ad, you get to choose the type of ad, you can listen to those ads whenever you choose to, you can skip them if you want, and you can say no any time you want.

This campaign will be launched in a few months and you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be a lot of takers, including yours truly.

More about CBS and Loopt’s location based mobile advertising campaign

I’ve already blogged about Loopt and CBS experimenting on location based mobile advertising technology. This, however, is considered a very important step in mobile advertising industry by many. There are two main reasons for this.

Firstly, not everyone is very enthusiastic about location based advertising. There are lots of concerns over issues like privacy and spam. With this being the case, this step is considered a very important one, based on which others might follow suit.

Second, the way Loopt and CBS have made things easier for customers in this mobile ad campaign is very impressive. To get an ad, you should turn on the locator button in your phone. The locator button will help advertisers find your location, even without GPS facility, as the technology pings cellphone towers and finds the location. Then, when you check out mobile websites like CBS News or Sportsline, you’ll get a banner ad based on your location. The idea of banner ad has a couple of advantages. First, it doesn’t clutter your phone’s inbox and second, it doesn’t interrupt you with rings.

You can turn it off at any point and you can opt out of the service any time you wish. What this means is – you opt in for the service, you get ads only when you want, and you can stop it any time you wish.

With this kind of a setup, Loopt and CBS are hopeful that customers will find this ad campaign interesting. If everything goes well, this might be the most prominent step in taking location based mobile advertising to customers on a large scale.
