Mobicom and Qkey Holdings to launch a unique interactive advertising platform

Mobicom Corp. has joined hands with Qkey Holdings, a digital marketing platform developer. Qkey Holdings has a unique platform which has generated a lot of buzz in the market. In fact, this particular platform is probably the reason why Mobicom signed a joint venture agreement with Qkey Holdings.

So, what’s so special about this platform? It changes an outdoor advertisement like billboard into a mobile based one. Qkey platform has an interactive advertising technology which enables the user to access the outdoor billboard ad through his mobile phone and get the information he wants downloaded in his mobile phone or in his email.

This process takes the revolutionary step of connecting two different forms of advertising – outdoor advertising and mobile phone advertising. Mobicom Corp. is pretty upbeat about this joint venture and thinks this will get a good response from people.

Mobicom is planning to launch this platform first in Asia and has plans to launch it in other markets depending on the response they get from the Asian market. South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, China, and Malaysia are the countries they’ve decided to launch this platform in.

The reason behind Mobicom’s decision to launch the platform first in Asia is very simple. In China, 17% of the total amount spent on advertising goes to outdoor advertising like billboards whereas in the U.S., only around 4% goes to outdoor advertising. So, the response for the platform will be obviously better in the Asian markets.

I think the platform will be a success in the Asian market. The real test though would be in the American and European markets where this kind of advertising is not as popular as it is in Asia.

Mobile broadband - the next big thing

Some of you might be wondering why I come up with terms like mobile broadband and mobile internet as often as I can. Well; let me put it in a way that everyone can understand.

Let’s say. You go out of town. A town where broadband internet centers don’t exist. And you’re not exactly the Blackberry-carrying, laptop-flaunting executive type. You need to check your email or need to check out something darn important in some obscure website. What do you do?

The solution could be – a good mobile phone with mobile internet / mobile broadband facility. And don’t think I’m the only one who’s rooting for this. A recent survey by ComScore states that mobile broadband usage went up by a freaking 154% in the fourth quarter of 2007. Not surprisingly, Verizon and Sprint account for most of the mobile broadband market.

Now, the next time you see someone questioning you on mobile broadband/mobile internet/mobile email/mobile games/mobile entertainment/mobile advertising, or hell, anything mobile, teach him all this. Or better yet, direct him to this blog.

iPhone 2.0 from Apple - Are you ready for the future?

Few days back, on March 6, Steve Jobs made an announcement which made everyone sit up and take notice. It focused on something called iPhone 2.0, based on which Apple has planned its moves for the iPhone.

As we all know, the iPhone is what it is today, because it stands out from other phones. In fact, we can’t even categorize Apple iPhone as just another phone. It’s almost like a handheld computer in which you can make calls. So, Steve Jobs has stated that he considers the iPhone to be a platform. Or even better, a multipurpose, handy device meant for both computing and communication. This is what the idea of iPhone 2.0 is based on.

Steve plans to categorize the mobile phone market into two main categories – ordinary mobile phones and the iPhone. While the ordinary mobile phones can be used for calls, text messages (SMS), MMS, songs, radio, and mobile TV, the iPhone platform, as it’s called, will offer superior mobile web browsing, email, instant messenger, multimedia applications, and other things that you can run on a PC.

Ever since its release, iPhone has got 28% of the smartphone market in the U.S. under control which is amazing. As we all know, the U.S. smartphone market is generally dominated by Blackberries and the iPhone is slowly changing that.

Steve Jobs has also mentioned that the next version of iPhone will support Microsoft Exchange Server. Now, this is a very significant move on the part of the iPhone. The reason is quite obvious. Microsoft Exchange Server is the system used to manage applications like email, address book, calendar, and more for big companies around the world. With the iPhone supporting this server, most companies will switch from Blackberry to the iPhone. And that should make Steve a happy man.

No need for Blackberry - Get emails on your handset now

If you’re a Blackberry user and thought it was most essential to keep you connected all the time, it’s time to change your opinion. Thanks to two brand new innovative services, you can get emails on an ordinary mobile phone, there is simply no need for a Blackberry. Surprised? Read on.

The first one comes from a UK company called Work Out of Office. The service is called Always On Mail and it’s available at ₤65 a year. All you need to do is, go to their website, choose your handset, download the appropriate software for the same, and enter your POP3 account details. That’s it; you’re good to go. You can get emails on the go.

The second service is even better, as it’s a free one. Momail has a cutting-edge mobile mailing service and most importantly, it’s free for all. The reason behind their magnanimity is simple. They want to build a massive subscriber base and then market other services/products from which they can make money. Though the basic email service is free, if you want extended storage capacity or backup facility, you’ll have to pay a fee.

Now, if you’re concerned that your data charges will go through the roof, don’t be. The emails will be compressed and reduced in size to a great extent. So, you’ll use only a small amount of data every month which will ensure your mobile bill stays under control.

I seriously believe this is one helluva news for mobile users. I wonder what kind of impact this will have on Blackberry users and most importantly, Blackberry manufacturers. Interesting days ahead. Meanwhile, why don’t you share your opinion on this?

Mobile social networking made simple - MoDazzle

If you are someone who travels a lot, keeping in touch with your friends through social networking sites can be tougher. After all, you can’t expect an internet kiosk wherever you go or even if you carry a laptop, you can’t expect to be in a Wi-Fi zone all the time. The result is – a mobile service which allows you to check out social networking sites right in your mobile phone.

MoDazzle is a company which specializes in building mobile services which offer value to the users. With MoDazzle, you can access sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Salesforce, and other online sources. Also, you can get weather updates, stock news, news updates, and so on. While I was going through their site, two services stood out from the rest.

Firstly, restaurant reviews. I really think this might be useful for a lot of people. You are in an unfamiliar area and want to find out a good restaurant to dine. Pick up your mobile phone and mention the kind of cuisine you want and the area you are in and text it to 22553. You’ll get a text message in return with all the details about the restaurant you want.

The second one, direction help. If you’re stuck somewhere and want to go somewhere, you can text the place where you want to go and the place you are in to 22553, you’ll get a reply which will show you the right direction to go to reach the place you want to go.

You can access this service in two ways – you can text whatever you want to 22553 and get a text message to help you, or you can access your mobile browser and send an email with your query to find out what you want.

On top of everything, it’s a free service. Need I say more? Go check it out and let me know what you guys feel. :)
