Mobile broadband - the next big thing

Some of you might be wondering why I come up with terms like mobile broadband and mobile internet as often as I can. Well; let me put it in a way that everyone can understand.

Let’s say. You go out of town. A town where broadband internet centers don’t exist. And you’re not exactly the Blackberry-carrying, laptop-flaunting executive type. You need to check your email or need to check out something darn important in some obscure website. What do you do?

The solution could be – a good mobile phone with mobile internet / mobile broadband facility. And don’t think I’m the only one who’s rooting for this. A recent survey by ComScore states that mobile broadband usage went up by a freaking 154% in the fourth quarter of 2007. Not surprisingly, Verizon and Sprint account for most of the mobile broadband market.

Now, the next time you see someone questioning you on mobile broadband/mobile internet/mobile email/mobile games/mobile entertainment/mobile advertising, or hell, anything mobile, teach him all this. Or better yet, direct him to this blog.

Mobile World Congress in Barcelona - Few thoughts

The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is undoubtedly one of the most talked-about events in recent times, especially in the mobile advertising and marketing industry. A lot of big names in the industry were present at the event and they discussed a lot about mobile phone industry, particularly the future of mobile messaging – both text messaging (SMS) and multimedia messaging (MMS). Some interesting points were raised.

As expected, Asia continues to be the dominant player in the mobile phone market. The growth opportunity in countries like India is tremendous and it can easily be termed the most happening market as of now.

In China, mobile spam has increased significantly. Operators are trying hard to prevent mobile spam and working on it. Same is the case with mobile virus.

As far as services like mobile email, mobile instant messenger, and mobile videoconferencing are concerned, the Middle East is considered the biggest market and experts see a lot of scope for growth there.

Compared to the US, Europe is ahead in terms of services like mobile email, mobile music, and MMS and operators consider these services to be a regular source of revenue, apart from calling charges.

The experts stated that while text messaging is the major form of mobile advertising today, MMS and other services will also join the list soon as more and more mobile advertisers are looking to advertise via MMS and mobile internet in high-end phones.

uVuMobile and GoGo Mobile Media to take on Southeast Asian and Middle East mobile segment

uVuMobile, a well known mobility software and services company, has formed a strategic alliance with GoGo Mobile Media, a famous video and audio content distribution company, in a move to grab a share of the rapidly burgeoning mobile advertising industry in Southeast Asia, particularly India, and the Middle East.

Now, this might have been yet another M&A news in the mobile advertising industry, had it not been for the fact that the parties involved are interested not in the western market, but in the eastern market. For those of you that don’t know, India is considered the fastest growing mobile phone market in the world with over 220 million users. And the number is increasing by the day rapidly. Similarly, other countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East are also fast catching up with the mobile phone revolution, thereby making it a ripe market for mobile content distributors and advertisers.

Also, Asians use premium services like SMS, MMS, mobile internet, mobile video, and mobile email features a lot more extensively than their western counterparts. So, it will be a hell lot easier for the advertisers to reach out to customers in say India, than the ones in the U.S., thanks to the different options of mobile advertising they have (read text messages, banner ads, video ads, mobile web ads) in the Asian market. One thing’s for sure. The U.S. needs to catch up a lot when it comes to mobile usage.

Access all your emails in one inbox - Here comes Momail

How many email accounts do you have? How many emails to you get every day on an average? Most importantly, how easy would it be to access different email accounts from your mobile phone and read your mails? Sounds a little tedious; right? Well; not any more. Momail is here to make your mobile email experience easier than ever.

Momail is a mobile aggregation service which lets you access all your emails in a single inbox. It collects your emails from different email accounts, compiles them in just one inbox, and lets you access them without any hassle. Similarly, when you reply, Momail will configure things so that your reply will be sent exactly from the email account in which you got the mail. So, no more switching to different email accounts from your mobile browser.

Also, you need not download any kind of app or software to use this service. It uses the existing email platforms in your mobile phone and works perfectly well. Above all, it’s a free service. Currently, the beta version is available and the customer feedback so far has been more than positive, indicating a great response for the service in future.

I have a feeling that this is a fantastic service, as it can reduce a lot of hassles when someone is trying to access his mails quickly. The service is now available in most parts of Europe, the U.S., China, Taiwan, and Kuwait. If it gets clicked big time, soon we can see this service spreading throughout the world. Already Momail boasts that its service can work perfectly well in hundreds of different mobile phone models all over Europe, including Apple iPhone.

As of now, you can become a beta user and try out the service. If you happen to live in any of the countries mentioned above, do try it out and let me know your thoughts.
