Mobile broadband - the next big thing

Some of you might be wondering why I come up with terms like mobile broadband and mobile internet as often as I can. Well; let me put it in a way that everyone can understand.

Let’s say. You go out of town. A town where broadband internet centers don’t exist. And you’re not exactly the Blackberry-carrying, laptop-flaunting executive type. You need to check your email or need to check out something darn important in some obscure website. What do you do?

The solution could be – a good mobile phone with mobile internet / mobile broadband facility. And don’t think I’m the only one who’s rooting for this. A recent survey by ComScore states that mobile broadband usage went up by a freaking 154% in the fourth quarter of 2007. Not surprisingly, Verizon and Sprint account for most of the mobile broadband market.

Now, the next time you see someone questioning you on mobile broadband/mobile internet/mobile email/mobile games/mobile entertainment/mobile advertising, or hell, anything mobile, teach him all this. Or better yet, direct him to this blog.

MobiTV statistics on Mobile TV and Mobile Advertising

I’ve been talking about mobile advertising and mobile marketing for quite some time now and I’ve had a few emails from skeptics who questioned my claims on mobile advertising reaching out to a lot of people. Well; I’m going to present some numbers to back up my claims. Mind you, I didn’t cook up these numbers. These were official figures released by MobiTV, a market leader in mobile entertainment. Now, let’s get down to business.

Around 9% of MobiTV users watch it with a ‘watching apparatus’ in home or office.

43% of parents who use MobiTV use it to entertain their kids.

67% of users access MobiTV in a party or social gathering.

A whopping 85% of users swear that they watch more TV ever since they signed up for MobiTV.

Of this, 67% are male users and 33% are female users. And expectedly, more than 80% of them are in the age range of 18 – 39.

In case you don’t know, MobiTV is a pioneer in mobile entertainment and boasts of a viewer base of more than three million adults who have subscribed to more than 50 live TV channels and digital music channels.

So, there you go people. You’ve got something to chew on.

Watch live TV right on your mobile phone

It seems Mobile TV is the buzzword these days. After the much talked about partnership between EXPWAY and ScreenTonic, now it’s the turn of Motorola to provide Mobile TV solutions.

Motorola is about to launch a new version of media player in their mobile phones which will allow you to watch live TV on demand. This is considered a big move in the mobile phone industry, as this concept of mobile TV is believed to become a huge hit in the near future. With the new Motorola media player, you can watch live TV whenever you want. The broadcast is based on (DVB-H) Digital Video Broadcast for Handsets system, which is considered the standard in Europe. But unfortunately, this is not the standard in the U.S., and mobile users there might be a little reluctant to try out this service from Motorola. Also, Motorola’s core system consists of Global Applications Management Architecture (GAMA) enabled program which is considered the very best when it comes to providing interactive value-added applications to the end user, thereby making him a loyal customer and enhancing the profits for the content provider.

It’s really interesting to see a mobile giant like Motorola grabbing the opportunity of Mobile TV with both hands. In my opinion, Mobile TV, especially on phones like iPhone and N95, could take mobile entertainment to a whole new level. Advertisers have already realized where the dollar is. Smart; aren’t they?
