If you are a San Diegan, you can watch live TV right on your mobile phone from now on. How does that sound?
Verizon Wireless has come up with this service which helps you watch TV shows in real time in your mobile phone. Verizon uses Qualcomm’s MediaFlo technology to bring this service to your mobile phone. Incidentally, San Diego happens to be the 58th market to get Verizon’s V Cast Mobile TV service.
Verizon thinks it can attract a lot of subscribers to its live TV service as it offers a variety of networks like NBC, CBS, MTV, FOX, ESPN, and Nickelodeon for users to choose from. The service will cost you anywhere from $13 to $25 and it gives you the choice to watch live TV shows from all the aforementioned networks.
In my opinion, Verizon’s mobile TV service is good enough to attract some subscribers. I think it is way better than watching downloaded video clips on your mobile phone. It’s live TV and people can watch their favorite news channels, sports channels, finance news channels, and other channels on the move which could be really convenient. However, only four of Verizon’s phone models support this live TV service, which I think is a definite downside. You can’t expect everyone to own an LG Voyager, can you? On a side note, I think this move could actually revive the stock price of Qualcomm which has remained stagnant for quite some time now!
Most importantly, if you happen to live in San Diego, check out this service and let me know your thoughts.

Mywaves, a mobile video site, has been making news recently. Especially, its partnership with MTV has got a lot of attention. Through this partnership, MTV will provide free, ad-supported mobile content to Mywaves site from its products like VH1, Jackass, Gametrailers, and Atom Entertainment. This is the first time MTV is offering free mobile content. Previously, the content was available only through network carriers and it required users to either go for the pay-per-view model or the subscription model.
Apart from MTV, Mywaves has got quite an impressive clientele with names like Microsoft, Mini, Paramount Pictures, Toyota, and more. Mywaves serves users with free mobile video content supported by ads. The ads range from text messages to banner ads, content discovery screens, and more. Interestingly, Mywaves came out of beta just about a year back and the kind of progress it has made has impressed a lot of people in the market.

MobiBlitz, a well-known media firm in South Africa, recently announced that it will install a number of Bluetooth hotspots in shopping malls across the country. These hotspots will be installed in over 70 shopping malls across the country and the number could go up soon.
These Bluetooth hotspots are a great way for mobile advertisers to reach their customers. Mobile advertising through Bluetooth technology is something that has been discussed a lot in the past. The hotspot, called MobiZone, is like a marketing server which can extend up to 100 meters. A number of such hotspots together will create a network of Bluetooth advertising spots across the country, making it easier for mobile marketers to send targeted ads to mobile users.
To make things easier for people, MobiBlitz has assured that this will be strictly done on an opt-in basis, meaning customers can opt in and opt out any time they want. Also, they’ve assured a zero-virus policy, as Bluetooth activated phones are prone to virus attacks. Apart from mobile ads, customers will be offered movie trailers, weather reports, travel information, news updates, sports updates, and more to make things interesting.
MobiBlitz has already created a buzz and big names like MTV, KFC, and Wrigley will be joining the network soon.

This could quite possibly be the greatest step in making mobile advertising reach out to customers in every nook and cranny of the world. Wapple, a world leader in mobile interactive advertising, has come up with a service which can help companies reach out to end users through their mobile phone, wherever they are.
Wapple allows you to build your own dynamic mobile advertisement sites. How does it sound? Wapple Canvas, as it’s called, allows anyone with little technical knowledge to build a mobile advertisement site to promote his own or someone else’s product/service. What this means is, you can build a mobile advertising site and start promoting your products/offers through text messages or banner ads on mobile phones in a short period of time.
In case you feel you don’t have the time to build your own mobile advertising site, Wapple takes care of it too. You just have to give your ideas and input and Wapple will come up with a mobile advertising site to promote whatever you want.
When I heard this for the first time, I thought this could be a great way for small companies to promote their products/service through mobile advertising. But then, I came to know that MTV has been associated with Wapple to promote its programs. So, get ready for a mobile advertising revolution.
