Velti, the leading mobile marketing platform and value added service provider, has announced that it has signed a partnership deal with Vantrix, a mobile content delivery company, and will be using its technology in its universal mobile video advertising platform.
This video advertising platform will deliver high quality video content funded by targeted advertisements to mobile users. These video clips are completely free as advertisers pay for them and mobile users can view these clips as many times as they want.
Velti has incorporated a unique technology from Vantrix in this platform which can identify the network conditions and the type of handset a mobile user has and adapt the video content accordingly. This is the reason why they like to call it ‘universal video advertising platform’.
Now, Velti is known for its mobile marketing platforms which are usually good, but this universal video advertising platform, as they like to call it, is very unique for one reason. The ads delivered with the video clips are extremely targeted. In fact, they take three different sets of data into consideration to make sure the ads are rightly targeted.
They are
1. Details from mobile users like age, gender, locality, income range, and so on.
2. Behavioral and contextual data which is provided by the personalization engine from Velti.
3. Carrier, network, and device performance characteristics from Vantrix.
Combining these three sets of data, the platform targets users pretty accurately and delivers highly relevant, highly targeted ads.
This, I think, is a very good example of targeted advertising. Using so many parameters, you can easily break down people into several groups and categorize the ads to be delivered accordingly. Such ads usually stand a good chance of getting clicked by the users, which is exactly what the advertisers want.

Pringo, the social networking solutions provider, has joined hands with NINJA Mobile, a mobile advertising specialist, to make its applications more appealing to mobile users by introducing new features.
From now on, mobile users will be able to access websites built on Pringo’s platform better than ever. They will be able to view content, post new content, and share their favorite content on the go with their friends through their mobile phones. Also, advertisers will now be able to send targeted, relevant ads, including video content, to users through the social networking sites built on Pringo’s platform.
This, in my opinion, benefits all three parties involved in the equation. First, the website owner will be able to monetize his site better, advertisers will be able to reach their target customer base better, and the end user will find it easier to access social networking sites from his mobile phone.
Mobile social networking is making its presence felt fast and companies like Pringo have realized its importance and started working on it. If you remember, Pringo signed a similar deal with a mobile marketing firm called Mozes some time back.

A recent report from Juniper Research says that mobile TV will be the biggest revenue generator in the mobile advertising industry in 2010. I’ve already blogged about the importance of mobile TV and the kind of impact it can have. Now, this report from Juniper Research reaffirms it.
The total spending on mobile TV in 2008 is just around $335 million. However, it will reach a whopping $2.5 billion in 2013, says the report. The personal nature of the mobile phone, the availability of popular mobile video content, and the ability to target certain key demographics are considered the plus points of mobile TV.
However, the most important point that caught my attention was this statement from the report.
‘People are accustomed to advertisements in video and are thus less irritated by it than other forms of advertising, especially compared to SMS.’
For your information, this has been my stand on mobile TV for quite some time now and I’ve already blogged about the advantage of mobile TV over other forms of mobile advertising.
On one hand, we have people who are getting ready to watch Olympics in mobile TV and on the other hand, we have advertisers who are gearing up to adapt themselves to the phenomenon that is mobile TV. However, they need to remember one thing. Mobile TV is not just about replicating the TV service with simulcast. The content, the package, and the ad format should be interactive enough to keep the viewer engaged or else the whole idea might backfire big time.

Mywaves, a mobile video site, has been making news recently. Especially, its partnership with MTV has got a lot of attention. Through this partnership, MTV will provide free, ad-supported mobile content to Mywaves site from its products like VH1, Jackass, Gametrailers, and Atom Entertainment. This is the first time MTV is offering free mobile content. Previously, the content was available only through network carriers and it required users to either go for the pay-per-view model or the subscription model.
Apart from MTV, Mywaves has got quite an impressive clientele with names like Microsoft, Mini, Paramount Pictures, Toyota, and more. Mywaves serves users with free mobile video content supported by ads. The ads range from text messages to banner ads, content discovery screens, and more. Interestingly, Mywaves came out of beta just about a year back and the kind of progress it has made has impressed a lot of people in the market.
