When two hugely famous billionaires squabble with each other, what do we get? Yep, you guessed it right; hot news.
Google, as we all know, is interested in capturing the thriving market of mobile advertising. Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt has clearly expressed his views on this issue and the market talk is that Google would partner with some major wireless operator to make their search and other applications available in mobile phones and would split the ad revenues with the wireless operator. But here comes the story from the other end.
Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam is not interested in integrating Google search facility in his company’s mobile phones. The reason stated for his decision is Google’s demand for a major share of the ad-based revenue generated. He considers these demands “disproportionate” and has clearly expressed that the carrier will not partner with Google.
Now, Google can approach other carriers and try to make something happen, but market experts speculate something even bigger than that. The talk is that Google could be thinking on the lines of becoming a mobile operator. The way I see it, as an independent provider of mobile phones, Google can certainly take the market by storm and surprise quite a few carriers. What do you think?
